How to Check a Game's Price History and Spot a Real Deal
A big red '-50%' badge does not mean a good price. Here is how to know before you buy.
Discount badges compare a sale price to the list price, not to what the game has actually sold for. A game can sit at a steady 'sale' price for months, and another store may already be cheaper. Judging a deal takes two checks: where is the game cheapest right now, and how low has it been before?
Step 1: compare the price at every store today
Check the official stores and the key shops, not just the one you usually use. GGz shows live prices from 14 stores on a game's page, so you can see the spread at a glance.
Step 2: look at the price history
Dedicated PC price trackers such as IsThereAnyDeal and GG.deals keep price history and show historical lows for many games. If the current price is at or near the lowest it has ever been, it is a real deal. If it is well above the past low, waiting may pay off.
Step 3: think about how sales usually repeat
Most big games return to a similar discount several times a year, around seasonal sales and publisher promotions. If you are not in a hurry, a game you want that is only slightly discounted will often be cheaper again.
Step 4: set an alert instead of checking every day
Decide the price you are happy with, bookmark the game and let an alert tell you when it arrives. In GGz, bookmarking a game notifies you when its price drops at any tracked store.
Step 5: check whether you already have it for free
Before paying, see whether the game is included in a subscription you already pay for, such as Game Pass, PS Plus, EA Play, Ubisoft+ or Amazon Luna. GGz shows this on the same page.
A simple rule of thumb
Buy when the price is both the lowest across stores today and close to its historical low. If either is missing, set an alert and wait.
Frequently asked questions
Does GGz show price history?
GGz focuses on live prices across 14 stores and on alerts when a price drops. For long price history charts, web trackers such as IsThereAnyDeal and GG.deals are built for that.
How do I know if a discount is real?
Compare the price across stores and against the game's past lows. A percentage badge alone does not tell you whether the price is good.
Is it better to wait for a sale?
Often, if you are not in a hurry, because many games return to similar discounts several times a year. An alert lets you wait without checking constantly.
